1. Exposure To Different Cultures
Culture isn’t just a thing you’ll find in Europe. Visit South America, Africa, or Asia for many incredible and irreplaceable memories. In particular, Africa is a truly gorgeous continent that is not visited nearly enough (in my opinion). There are places that snow, hot deserts, grasslands, waterfalls and an amazingly wide range of unique wildlife! Even though colorism is global, there are many places where natural hair and dark skin are the norm and are celebrated, and Africa is one of them.
2. It Makes You Open-Minded
Mark Twain once said, “travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry and narrow-minded” and his quote still rings true today. Travel will not only expose you to different cultures, but it will help you figure out your blind spots and make you more open-minded. After exposing yourself to a multitude of cultures, you may find yourself more willing to listen to different worldviews, and more importantly, more able empathize and respect those who think differently than you.
3. Opportunity to Make Friends
Staying in a hostel is one of the best ways to make friends abroad. You’ll meet wanderlust backpackers and experienced world-travelers who may even be willing to give you a tour of interesting places and tourist hotspots. The friends you make abroad have a good chance of lasting forever, since you’re widening your exposure to people with similar personalities and interests that may gel perfectly with yours. There’s nothing like bonding with a travelling buddy while sharing a meal or exploring a new city together.
