If you’re anything like me, you feel like absolutely nothing can compare to mama’s home cooking. There’s no satisfaction greater than when you’re sinking your teeth into grandma’s chess pie that you just can’t seem to replicate on your best day in the kitchen. I think almost every black woman can relate to indulging in some good ol’ Soul Food with family every Sunday and/or on the holidays. The downside to our lip smackin’ favorites is that they greatly contribute to our early demise as black women. The butter, oils, salt, cheeses and sugar may taste great, but they are not so great to our hearts, bodies and overall health in general.
Thankfully, professional vegan chef Jenne’ Claiborne has made a way for us to enjoy traditional Soul Food cuisine without destroying our temple. By substituting a few ingredients, she proves that Soul Food the vegan way is possible and can also be just as delicious. She has been featured on The Today Show, Reader’s Digest and also has a how-to YouTube cooking channel that beautifully showcases her vegan creations.
I don’t know about you but I am willing to make some sacrifices and changes in my cooking if it means adding extra years to my life, improving my vitality and peace of mind. After all, making a few tweaks here and there doesn’t mean I’m sworn into veganism it just means I’m making adjustments for my own well being. So why not give it a try? You have nothing to lose but an unhealthy lifestyle.
