Very recently, a popular YouTuber by the name of Shan-BOODY had a segment of hers featured on the show “The Real”, in which they spoke about how she helps women out on dates and even hold up cue-cards for assistance. This point was met by joking criticism of it “being some white people stuff” from Loni Love.
What followed was an uproar from social media, particularly black women social media coming to the defense of Shan, which in itself, isn’t the problem. The problem is, as some have pointed out, the defenders who included dark and brown-skinned black women used colorist, or colorist-adjacent language to degrade Loni.
I also have a problem with the fake outrage surrounding the situation. Shan has every right to criticize Loni and feel slighted by the comment. As is the case with many multi-racial women who identify, or are identified as black when said black-ness comes into question by an actual black person, there are bound to be tears and ill-feelings as they many times feel that they don’t fit in anywhere.
